Auli, a heaven for nature lovers! Very few people and that includes regular tourists too, must have heard the name of hill station situated in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. It is also known as ‘Auli bugyal’ in Garhwali, as small as its name and perched at height of 2800 metres above the ocean level near the mighty Himalayas, it transforms itself into a skiing heaven in the winters when it gets completely snowbound.
It is totally covered by some forests; they are Beethartoli, Neelkanth,and Hathi Parbat. For adventure this place is great, there are only 2 places in India where ice-skiing is taught, this is one of them and another in Kashmir. chair car ride is also there which is Asia’s longest Gondola ride.

Auli is located in the northern state of Uttarakhand which is at a distance of 16 km from Joshimath on the Badrinath route, and forms a part of the Garhwal mountain range. And these are the tourist place situated in and around the hill station –
TRISHUL PEAK– here 3 peaks join together in such a way that it looks like Trishul. It is amazing for travellers to see such things.
BADRINATH– Badrinath is among 4 dominant char Dham pilgrimage sites of India.which is situated at the bank of river Alaknanda. This place is named after the Badrinath temple dedicated to the Lord Vishnu. It is one of the most visited and popular religious towns of Hindus which is located in the District of Chamoli.
AULI ARTIFICIAL LAKE– the world’s most beautiful lake which comes among man-made lakes. This noiseless lake is found supreme parallel to the lodging and clifftop club
JOSHIMATH – A town which is situated in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Joshimath is a place of Narasimha Temple. In winters when Badrinath town used to be covered with snow.Then it became necessary to shift Badrivishal to the Narasimha Temple,during the Dipawali festival.
VISHNUPRAYAG– Vishnuprayag is a small place and at this place two tributaries of Alaknanda and Dahuliganga combining to form one single stream. This place is one of the 5 prayags where the stream meets its sister tributaries before changing into Ganga River.
CHENAB LAKE– This is one of the places in Garhwal Himalayas which is hardly explored. Here you can go through the peaceful and shocking trekking streets.
GURSO BUGYAL– A meadow which is situated at a distance of 3 km from Auli. This place is a real beauty which transforms itself into eye-catching green beauty during spring and white during winter.
HISTORY OF AULI
‘Bugyal’ is the meaning of ‘Auli’ in local people’s talking, and Bugyal which is known as ‘meadows’. This beautiful hill station was populated by the partly nomadic Bhotiya Tribes and it was the main centre for business. The Bhotiya community used to trade with the neighbouring country of Tibet on the exchange system.
This community used ski slopes to train the soldiers of the king’s army after those slopes were used by the (ITBP) Indo-Tibetan border police force to train their forces, and now it is used by The Travelers as a ski slope.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
Auli is really a year-round destination and it has different colours in each season, in winter it is white, in spring it’s green whereas in autumn it’s Orange. But Best time to plan your trip to Auli can be winter because this place is best known for snow and skiing. Auli has heavy snowfall in the month of mid-January to mid-march, it becomes terribly cold at this.
SUMMER- Auli in may and June is best for a family trip. The average temperature in these months is about 15° celsius and is a great time to beat the heat of the plains.
MONSOON- monsoon arrives here at the end of June to till September . It’s actually not the best time to visit Auli at this time because it rains heavily here.Landslides are also common at these places.So plan your trip wisely at this time.
WINTERS – when Autumn arrives in October it gives Golden touch to hills.the weather also starts turning cold and in November the winter is all settled down.if you wanted to do skiing go between January and February.

HOW TO REACH
From Auli, the nearest railway station is in Haridwar which is approx 255 km from Joshimath. Cabs and road transportation are easily available from this station to Auli at reasonable prices. And this station is also connected to so many cities of India by different trains.
Roads to Joshimath are connected to other cities and some states of India. Roads transportation corporations are available from nearby cities Rishikesh, Dehradun etc to Auli.
Jolly Grant is the closest airport to the Auli ,which is in Dehradun.Taxis are available from here to reach the real destination. Foreign tourists will get a flight from Indira Gandhi International Airport to Jolly Grant Airport.

At Auli, there is a cable car which is the longest cable car which runs from Joshimath to Auli. So you can visit Auli also by cable cars.

Auli offers a wide range of things which you can indulge in winters
Auli is beautiful in summer, but Winters sport held there gives an ultimate spark to the valley. It becomes too attractive for skiers with the snow-white slopes and facilities of skiing. During Feb last week, skiing national level competitions were held here. There is also a sky school which organizes contests and courses.
Trekking is one of those adventure activities which you can participate at any hill station across the country in almost all the seasons. And trekking through the visual Himalaya is mesmerizing.you can hike up Nanda Devi, Dron Mountain and Trishul Peak. Gurson bugyal is another famous trek that rewards you with the breathtaking view from the top. While trekking you will get the pure chilled water running through the streams you must drink it. And your trekking guides will help you throughout the journey.
Aside from its use as a local mode of transport at AULI.the Cable is also a thrilling adventure ride. Especially that ride from Joshimath to Auli which is approximately 4 km. Long and longest in the country.
Uttrakhand is home to many pilgrimages of India, including Haridwar, AULI is situated very near to some prayags( confluence of 2 rivers) which are considered very sacred in Hinduism. These are Rudraprayag, Devprayag, Nandaprayag and Vishnuprayag.
Nanda Devi national park which is home to many rare species of wild animals of the Himalayas. You can join in a special walk through the reserve forest to sight stunning animals.

* Those who are visiting in winter pack heavy woollen clothes, take snow boots, windproof jacket
*Gloves also will be required at this time, pack a cap and muffler as well.
*And Just take some important essentials like soaps, a few extra socks, a raincoat, a small sanitizer, and tissue.
*Also take some snacks that can be eaten when you feel hungry and will make you energetic in a chilled cold.
*If visiting in summer, pack light woollens. Carrying a pair of Trekking shoes and sports shoes won’t be enough.
*LED headlamp and a trekking pole will be needed.

Travellers who want to stay in Auli can stay in the hotels which are provided by the government and clifftop hotels .you should go till 7th tower from Joshimath and there is some other private guest house and govt hotels with cheap prices. GMVN has its own resort in Auli, near the ITBP camps. Hotels that are of both premium and reasonable class and cover all
the facilities and luxuries a tourist can expect.
WHAT AND WHERE TO EAT
For food there are limited options in Auli.
You will get some small dhabas at auli…but Joshimath does have some good restaurants. You can taste the finger-licking authentic garhwali cuisine there. Garhwali cuisine includes a number of varieties of dal, green vegetables and rice. In sweet you will get Bal mithai( a local sweet), singhori which is ( a cone shaped sweet wrapped in malu leaf).
